This stunning, rare circular original lithograph by master Israeli painter Shmuel Bonneh was created in 1969. The intricate composition is framed within a perfect circle highlighted by a shimmering metallic gold background layer. The narrative fuses biblical and holiday iconography, depicting two expressive, stylized figures rendered with rich stained-glass-like contours in deep shades of blue, magenta, and teal. The figure on the left holds the traditional Lulav (palm frond) associated with the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), while the figure on the right sounds a horn/shofar. Beneath them, stylized structural depictions of Jerusalem’s Old City and domed roofs anchor the spiritual scene. This fine graphic print belongs to a highly limited edition, hand-signed and numbered "27/90" by the artist.
About the Artist:
Shmuel Bonneh (1930–1999) was a prominent Polish-born Israeli painter and muralist. Immigrating to Haifa in 1936, he studied under local modern masters including Menachem Shemi, Israel Paldi, and Yohanan Simon, before serving in the Palmach during the War of Independence. He spent the mid-1960s refining his craft in Paris. Bonneh’s mature style is heavily celebrated for its profound engagement with Biblical narratives, Jewish folklore, and local mysticism, often channeled through rich texturing and fractured lines reminiscent of stained glass. A highly versatile creator, his monumental mosaic works, tapestries, and stained glass windows decorate numerous major public spaces, synagogues, and institutions throughout Israel.
