About the Artist:
Shraga Weil (1918–2009) was one of Israel's most influential and iconic printmakers and artists, deeply tied to the Kibbutz art movement. Born in Nitra, Czechoslovakia, he studied art in Prague before forging underground documents to save lives during WWII. After immigrating to Israel in 1947 and a period in a Cyprus detention camp, he settled in Kibbutz HaOgen. Weil mastered diverse graphic mediums, including lithography, screenprinting, and etching. His art is internationally celebrated for bridging socialist realism with ancient Biblical imagery, lyrical modernism, and deep Jewish history. His monumental works grace prominent public venues across Israel, including the Knesset and the President's Residence.
