About the Artist:
Yehoshua Front (1946–2023) was a multifaceted Israeli painter, draftsman, and poet whose work beautifully bridged the worlds of visual art and literature. Born in Russia, he immigrated to Israel as a young boy in 1957. Front developed his artistic voice by studying under some of the country’s most celebrated classical and modern masters, including Professor Yosef Schwartzman, Avigdor Stematsky, and Moshe Rozentalis. This rich education allowed him to craft a signature style defined by expressive portraits and striking modern abstract and semi-abstract landscapes. His canvases often captured the vibrant essence and architectural rhythm of cityscapes like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Front’s significant contribution to Israeli art was showcased in numerous solo exhibitions across the country. Among his most celebrated milestones was a poignant self-portrait exhibition curated by the legendary art critic Adam Baruch at the Museum of Israeli Art, Ramat Gan, which solidified his legacy as a deeply introspective master.
