About the Designer
Jan Lenica (1928–2001) was an internationally celebrated filmmaker, animator, and graphic designer, widely considered one of the founding fathers of the world-renowned Polish Poster School. Graduating in architecture from the Warsaw University of Technology, Lenica specialized in satiric illustrations, theatrical graphics, and pioneering stop-motion animated cinema. His distinct artistic language utilized bold, expressionistic brushstrokes, ironical themes, and fluid Art Nouveau-inspired typography. Lenica served as a professor of graphic art at several leading European institutions, and his iconic cultural graphics reside in permanent museum archives worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
