About the Artist:
Moshe Tamir (1924–2004) was a prominent Russian-born Israeli painter, graphic artist, and key figure in early Israeli modernism. Born in Odessa, he immigrated to Israel in 1931 and studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, later serving as its director. He refined his artistic skills in fresco and monumental painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. A winner of the prestigious Hermann Struck Prize (1947) and the Prize for Graphic Art (1961), Tamir represented Israel at the São Paulo Biennale. His works are characterized by vibrant color theories, intense texturing, and a powerful fusion of Mediterranean archetypes with modern abstraction.
